Hiking and Backpacking

Hiking and Backing opportunities abound in the Cherokee National Forest and Gee Creek Wilderness Area. Hikes range from easy to strenuous, with beautiful scenery, creeks, rivers, and waterfalls. Just south of the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, hikers are exposed to one of the most diverse examples of flora, fauna and wildlife anywhere in the nation. Black Bear Cove has an overall moderate climate while still giving the opportunity for hikers and campers to experience the 4 seasons.
Other hiking opportunities lie within a 50-100 mile radius of Black Bear Cove including the Cohutta Wilderness Area, Big Frog Wilderness Area, Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, Joyce Kilmer Slick Rock Wilderness Area, The Smokey Mountain National Park, and the Appalachian Trail. Whichever trail you choose, or you just decide to take a stroll around the Black Bear Cove campus, you are virtually guaranteed an enjoyable time.
